WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT OVARIAN CYST

‘’Good girls have fibroid while bad girls have an ovarian cyst’’. That’s one of the terrible myths I heard in medical college. The myth is untrue. With the rampant news about ovarian cyst cases, a lot of people think it is another form of STI/STD for women. No, it is not. It has got nothing to do with that. Just like everyone has experienced a growth in different parts of their body at a point in their lives, that’s the same way growths occur on the ovary too. Let’s quickly have an overview of ovarian cyst. Don’t worry about the medical jargons, it will be simplified.

MAN ACCIDENTALLY KILLS HIS BABY WHILE BEATING HIS WIFE

Countless times women have been advised to speak up and seek help when in an abusive relationship. Domestic violence has negative ripple effect on the victims, the family and the society. In most cases, either the victim is maimed or murdered.

In Owerri, Mr. Chinedu, accidentally killed his three months old baby while beating his wife. The wife allegedly picked up the baby thinking that it will calm her husband down. While trying to dodge a punch from her husband, the baby got hit and died.

Mr. Chinedu has been arrested. He was interrogated and in tears blamed his anger on his wife for not washing his clothes, lies and not trust-worthy.

62 YEARS OLD PASTOR WAS ARRESTED FOR DEFILING A 7 YEAR OLD GIRL ON THE ALTAR

The rising trend of sexual assaults on the girl child is very worrisome. They are no longer safe because the very hands that should be protecting them are the ones destroying them. Another provoking one that occurred recently, 9th of May precisely calls for a high cry…a pastor defiling a little girl. The church is supposed to be a safe haven for anyone especially little children. But in this case, the church was the very place the abominable act was committed. Not just in the church but on the altar…a place where one can have a personal encounter with God.

A FEEL A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

‘’Paradise can be found on the back of horses, in books and between the breasts of women’’ says a proverb.

Your breast is your paradise, do not let it bring hell to you.

Check your breast daily.

You do not need to wait till October for Breast Cancer Awareness. Tell someone about it. You could save a woman’s life. Get checked either by self- examination or go for a mammogram.

‘’Breast cancer is being detected at an earlier, more treatable stage these days, largely because women are taking more preventive measures, like self-examinations and regular mammograms. And treatment is getting better too’’ Elizabeth Hurley.

WIFE OF THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR CONDEMNS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

‘’Many victims of domestic violence become victims of their own psychological realities. The world of these women is lonely, isolated and filled with fear, with no emotional outlet whatsoever. Sadly, victims wait until it is too late’’ says Mrs Bolanle Ambode.

The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, has condemned the high rate of domestic violence in Nigeria. She expressed her grieve toward the assaults on spouses, abuse on children and other forms of uncivilised behaviour against women and children which is becoming a standard of behaviour and must be controlled.

The governor’s wife admonishes that any woman who finds herself in such an abusive relationship should retrace her steps so she can live to tell her story.

She opposed the commonly used excuse of societal stigmatization of women who leave unpleasant marriages, retorting that when the woman dies in such a cruel marriage, what then does the society say?

5 TIPS TO TIDY YOUR HOUSE IN A SHORT TIME

You’ve just got back home from the day’s work and you are so tired; you just want to let yourself loose…not minding the state of your house. Then you get this I-am-on-my-way-to-your-house call. Or just at that moment you are just ‘lazying’ around the house and your spouse calls to say ‘’honey, I am coming home with a friend’. After the call, you are panicking and do not know where to start from.  Here are tips to quickly do the magic.

DUMP ALL IN ONE: If you have things littered around and arranging them will take a long time, get a basket or an empty carton to pack them and put it out of sight so you can put them back neatly later.

DO THE QUICK SWEEP: Quickly sweep the floor of the living room or use a vacuum cleaner if you have one. This will make the floor clean. You do not want your guest stepping on a dusty floor.

MAKE A FAST WIPE: With a disinfectant wipe or a damp towel, wipe the side stool or dining table. You will want to serve your guest on either of them.

CLEAN THE BATHROOM: Check the bathroom to ensure it’s in good condition…clean and clear of laundry. Your guest may likely use the bathroom. Ensure the tissue paper is in place and the water is running.

USE A SWEET SCENT: Use good room fragrance (or air-freshener) in both the living room and the bathroom. Make sure the room is well ventilated or turn on the air-conditioner.

You can do this in 5-7 minutes. If there are other people in the house, you can delegate the chores and you will be amazed that in 3 minutes the house is set to welcome the guest.

FIRST AIRLINE BY A BLACK WOMAN GOES INTERNATIONAL

Fly Blue Crane is the first South African based airline owned by a black woman. It is set to go on its first international flight on May 13, just after eight months of the airline’s inauguration in September 2015. Before now, the airline flew locally in South Africa.

The CEO, Sizakele Mzimela, is a pioneer and veteran in African aviation with 20 years of experience in leadership roles. Her first job started as an analyst at South African Airways where she got several promotions till she rose to become the CEO and left to form her own airline. She was also the chairwoman of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) and the Airlines Association of Africa (AASA).

‘’You can stand up and say ‘I am the best person for the job’. Understand that we just have to work harder. It’s unfair, but you spend less time complaining and more time finding a way to move on and break through regardless of the difficulties. Be mentally prepared that climbing that mountain will be different. I’m prepared to climb to the top. It’s your job to say ‘Nothing will stop me. I’m going to make it, ‘because it doesn’t look like, I’, sad to say, that things will change any time soon.’’ Says Mzimela, in an interview with Runwaygirl Network.

Lesson: The sky is the starting point for those who are determined to walk and work through the clouds. Despise not the days of little beginnings. Women can do big things. So don't believe in the lie that your gender will limit you.

6 Ps FOR EVERY GO-GETTER

Everyone wants to achieve that which they desire. Only a few see to it that they get what they want despite the hurdles. They are called the go-getters. Go-getters are people who get their goals at all cost. They are determined to succeed. They have set out clear goals and are proactive towards getting it. They believe in themselves and display certain attributes which puts them on top of their game. I have called these attributes the ‘6Ps of go-getters’.

PRINCIPLES: Principles give you a clear focus. It helps you chart your course (discover your path) and make decisions. You have heard that ‘’If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything’’. Go-getters know what they want and live by what they stand for.

PURPOSE: Purpose is the ‘why’. It is the reason you want something done. Purpose helps you know how best to channel and exert your energy on what you want to do. Every go-getter connects with their purpose which pushes them closer to their goals.

PASSION: Passion is that magnetic force that pulls you toward your vision. It creates a positive vibe (enthusiasm) which gives you energy to do that which you believe in. Go-getters know that you cannot have passion which for what you don’t believe in.

PERFORMANCE: To perform is to act. It is turning into reality that which you have dreamed about. Go-getters are proactive and they bring quality to their performance through constant learning.

PERSISTENCE: Persistence is unwilling to let go of what you desire. Failure is not an option for the go-getter. They are not afraid to fail, so they don’t quit.  Go-getters know they have to keep trying, irrespective of the number of times they have failed, till they get what they want. If one method doesn’t work, they try other ones instead of giving up. They are always ready to embrace challenges.

PERSUASION: Persuasion is the act of causing people to do or believe in something. That is, winning people to believe in you. This is a skill for the go-getter. It is only when people believe in you that they will support or partner with you.

AMAZING GRACE

What’s going through your mind? Wondering if I am a Christian? What do I know about grace right?  Lol. Interestingly, I am an ardent Christian and I don’t plan on porting. Okay, let me tell you a little about grace especially now Easter is here. I have seen so many definitions and acronyms of ‘grace’ but the one that got to me is the understanding of grace I got during my quiet time.

7 SIGNS THAT HE IS AFTER YOUR BOOTY

I have made this very short and easy to read.

A man who values you will rather seek your friendship instead of placing calls to your booty.

Save yourself the heart-break. Don’t expect love from a player.

The dude ain’t taking you serious if you notice the following;

  • ·         Enjoys complimenting your looks; paying special attention to your curve, ass and boobs.
  • ·         Every conversation with him turns flirty and sexual even when you try to change the topic.
  • ·         Buys you sexy things like pants, lingerie or sex toys.
  • ·         Never takes you to his friends, family, colleagues or business associates
  • ·         He doesn’t really like going on dates with you…only sees you indoors.
  • ·         Any moment with you, he plugs and play…I mean hit the bed. Not ready to spend time with you.
  • ·         He gets too busy or not really interested when you want to discuss serious matters.

Please don’t ignore these signs. When he places the call, hang up. You are too precious to be used as rags.

USE WHAT YOU HAVE TO GET WHAT YOU WANT

You have it! Yes you…you! What’s going through your mind? You’re wondering what she is going to write about this time right? Got you there! Use that thing you have. ‘’You have all it takes’’ says Bishop TD Jakes.
It was during one of our Review Sessions…the ‘shredding’ session where managers use their mouths (words) to tear off your clothes…most dreaded session. One of the managers told me ‘’you have to use what you have to get what you want’’. I have never liked that word because of how most ladies use it especially in movies. It translates most time to the bed. Years later, I had to do a lot of thinking and I found out that I can actually get what I want by using what I have. That is, in a totally different way from what I had perceived it to be. What do I really have? And what do I really want? See what I made out of it.

First Lady of Kebbi State adopts mad woman’s daughter

Dr. Mrs. Zainab Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the first lady of Kebbi State, recently adopted the daughter of a mad woman roaming the streets. She has changed the girls name from Saddiqa Bako to Saddiqa Abubakar Atiku Bagudu while the mentally challenged woman has been taken to the hospital to get medical attention.

She has a heart of gold!

The Braless party

Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, a.k.a Mc Oluomo, the Head of NURTW (Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers) Lagos Chapter, marked his birthday on March 14, 2016. This was celebrated at The Place Night Club, Ikeja. The birthday party was themed ‘Braless Party’ as female attendees were instructed to come without their bras on. Someone said it is because of the excessive heat in Naija.

Was his daughter there too?
Where is our sanity and decorum?
Let’s organize ‘no boxers’ party for the men and see how many will turn out. You will be shocked that none will show up so why do this to yourselves? Why allow yourselves to be used as public toilets?

Quite shameful!

Woman wanted to sell her children for N30, 000 each

During a crusade held in calabar, Dr Chris Okafor a.k.a Oracle, prophesied that there was a woman in the congregation who was offered N30, 000 each for her two children and was concluding plans to sell them to raise money to start a trade. While Dr. Okafor was still talking, the woman ran out to him and affirmed his prophecy. On seeing this, he knew that this was not a matter of binding and casting…he gave her N100, 000 and told her count if it is complete.

Na wa o! What is this world turning into? Mothers are now forsaking their children. So if not for the crusade, she would have sold them?

PEARLDIVA: MEET THIS SOUL-LIFTING GOSPEL ARTISTE-ROSEMARY

The first time I listened to this lady sing, I was ‘wowed’ by her spell-binding vocals. Her voice is so unique, captivating and carries so much power. The adorable worship leader is from a background of vocalists and says she gets her inspiration from the Holy Spirit during her moments of worship.
In one year, Rosemary has made global hit which she confirmed in this interview that ‘’when God calls you, He announces you’’.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR MAN IS NOT OLD FASHIONED!

This new age thing is gradually throwing the lady in us to the wind. It’s easy to allow demands on our time and energy to rub us of the joy and pleasure of a beautiful relationship. If the man is the head then the woman is the neck to give him balance and control. There is absolutely nothing wrong in being there for your man. It does not make you less of a woman instead it shows how much you value him and this makes him feel loved and appreciated. Whether you are a stay at home or a working woman, you can take care of your man and this involves physically, sexually and emotionally. Nurture him…no one is saying you should take the place of his mother just act like her. Lol. The annoying part is that most men won’t tell you what they want. They assume the woman should know what they want and this makes it pretty difficult for women. Look for ways to make him happy.

JENNY TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAKE SHRIMP COCONUT RICE

Since the first time I tasted this delicacy, it has not left my mind. I tried to prepare it for myself and it didn’t come out the way I tasted it. I have been searching for easy way out. This time I got it. Thanks to Jenny…she taught me how to prepare the shrimp coconut rice. Let me not be stingy with what I learnt… I will share it with you.

CONDOMS ARE STILL VERY EFFECTIVE...

I have started again. I have not yet recovered from the controversies of ‘’the tighter the sweeter’’…now condom. What about condom? I felt I should share some naked truths about condoms after studying condomology. lol. Complaints such as ‘’ it’s not sweet with condom’’, ‘’Condom itches me’’, ‘’ I used a condom and still got pregnant’’, ‘’ the condom failed me’’, ‘’I caught STI even when I used a condom’’, ‘’ My partner does not like condom’’, ‘’I like it skin to skin’’ are among the million things I have heard about the ineffectiveness of condom and this led to my recent study. The increase in STIs and STDs as well unintended pregnancies calls for worries. Where are they really missing it?

So let us talk about condom…it’s not a sin to talk about it.

7 SAFETY TIPS FOR YOUR CARDS

…but he is a pastor ‘Rosemary lamented’. She has just called me from the UK for her account balance. I told her the balance but she argued and told me what it should be. I ran through her account statement and gave her the breakdown of transactions from the last time she was in Nigeria till that date. I noticed that there were numerous ATM debit transactions just the week before she called me and she was already in the UK. Is your ATM card with you? ‘I asked’. She said no and that it’s with her pastor who she instructed to withdraw money monthly for her mother’s upkeep. But the pastor saw it as God’s blessing and decided to use it for his daily upkeep. The rest of the story is to be told in another edition. You can never trust anyone when it comes to matters like this. This goes a long way to tell us that fraud is an ever-growing problem and it is to our best interest to take necessary precautions. To help reduce the risk of fraud and theft, here are few safety tips:

6 MUST HAVE HERBS!

Herbs and spices bring food to life. They take a simple ordinary food to a whole new level and they have been used by civilization for thousands of years. Over time (with lots of experiment and concoction, lol) I have come to learn that most of these herbs are not only for cooking but also as natural preservatives and remedies for some common illnesses...I'm talking tested and trusted remedies here. From cough, cold, indigestion to sore throat and many others.
It doesn't even matter if the herbs are fresh or dried neither does it matter whether you grow them in your kitchen or picked them off the shelf in supermarkets. You just gotta have some herbs in your kitchen!
I just love the swiveling and swirling of aromas in my kitchen and I've settled for at least 6 herbs that are a must have.

THYME
This is one of the versatile and varied herbs. It is a good source of vitamin A which is beneficial to the health of the eye, skin, hair and nail. It is also anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibiotic. Thyme pairs well with other herbs to add complexity to their individual flavours. You can add thyme to your jollof rice, stew, meats and tomato sauces. Thyme infused tea is an effective remedy against sore throat, cold and cough. As a topical treatment; use thyme oil to help soothe and heal acne, eczema and psoriasis (a skin disease that causes itchy or sore patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales). Rinse your scalp with thyme infused in water to treat dandruff and other scalp conditions which may cause hair loss.  Thyme can be used either fresh or dried.

TIPS!! Sometimes when I want the thyme aroma in my peppersoup, I tie some of it into a clean pouch (cheese cloth pouch) drop it in the boiling pot. That way I can have some thyme taste and aroma without the leaves swimming visibly in the dish.

PARSLEY
I just love the taste and aroma of this herb; it is also beautiful when used as garnish.
Parsley is a natural anti-bacterial, powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It is used in salads as a main ingredient or light dressing. When dried, it is very good in soups and stews.
Parsley is great for digestion and detoxification. It can bolster immune system and neutralize bad breath. Free to chew on some parsley!

PS!!!  Pregnant women should eat parsley in moderation or simply stay away from it as it is known to induce uterine contraction and cause miscarriage in some cases.

CURRY
This is very popular in Nigeria. Curry leaves are found almost everywhere. Curry-whether the leaves or powder have great health benefits.  I add it to almost every dish even noodles (story for another day). Curry powder is a mixture of herbs like coriander seed, cumin, turmeric, chilli, mustard, ginger etc. It is used for stew, soups (I love it in my vegetable soup!), beans, homemade curry sauces and meat.

Since curry is a mixture of many herbs, I'll just talk about the benefit of the coriander in it. Coriander leaves can be found in most vegetable markets or supermarkets. Coriander is another herb that is very popular for its anti-inflammatory properties. It may also be used in treating muscle pain, headaches and stiffness.

This herb is an excellent source of iron and phytonutrients. It protects the body against urinary tract infections, prevents nausea, lowers blood sugar levels and aids in digestion. Coriander juice is beneficial in treating dysentery. When mixed with pinch of turmeric powder, it serves as a powerful remedy against blackheads and pimples.

TIPS!!! For a more dramatic curry aroma, add a dash of it to your heated oil before the onions.

GINGER
This is just oooh so awesome! It is a more delicious replacement for artificial flavouring. Add ginger to your stew, soup, homemade juice and all tomato dishes for some aromatic addiction...it turns up the bass in food. Lol.
It is a good source of antioxidant and an effective soothing remedy for cold, cough and sore throat. It never disappoints!

TIPS!!!  Try adding ginger, lemon and a little sugar, serve chilled as a very refreshing summer drink. I also add a dash of ginger to all my homemade fruit juice even to smoothies!

MINT
This is another replacement for artificial flavouring. You can add it to sauces, jollof rice. (I've tried it) pepper soup (especially peppermint) and of course tea!
Mint is an excellent deterrent for many kinds of pest including, rodents, ants and spiders.
Mint tea helps clear sinus congestion, soothes a headache, relaxes the muscle and help the body system stay alert without feeling wound up. The natural oil in mint aids digestion and relieves menstrual cramps

TIPS!  Try adding honey to mint infused
Tea for a clearer airway!

ROSEMARY
Add fresh or dried rosemary leaves to fish, chicken, goat meat and lamb. It also complements beans and sautéed mushroom.
It soothes indigestion, neutralizes bad breath and relieves muscle pains.
Rosemary oil or herb infused water helps to clear up dandruff, promotes hair growth and relieves skin irritation. The aroma of rosemary can help clear the mind and relieve everyday stress

TIPS!!! Sometimes I use it in place of thyme and other times I use them together

PEARLDIVA…YASMIN BELO OSAGIE (CO-FOUNDER SHE LEADS AFRICA)

When I see or hear young girls making global impact, I keep asking myself what I have been doing. I can’t count how many times I have googled my name and only Facebook and Twitter has something about me. And there are young ladies or let me call them girls (so that it will pain me well) that you will search for their names on the web and a full list with so many pages about them comes out. Many young ladies in their 20s are still trying to find their path and some don’t still know what to do with themselves. The next thing you will hear them talk about is that they want to get married. Our Pearldiva will shock you out of your dormancy state. Like our bosses always tell us during our performance review session, that there are nothing like dormant accounts but dormant account officers. It means we are the reason the accounts go dormant. As painful as it used to make us feel, it is the truth.

‘’Turn every moment into an opportunity and get out there and hustle. No one will fight for your success if you don’t…’’ says Yasmin Belo Osagie.

Yasmin Belo Osagie, 26 year old, is the co-founder of She Leads Africa (SLA). She Leads Africa is a Nigerian based social enterprise that equips female entrepreneurs in Africa with the knowledge, network and financing needed to build and scale strong businesses. Yasmin saw a gap to create space for young women to make an impact in Africa. She grabbed the opportunity to create her own start-up. Instead of gossiping and idling away her time with friends, the graduate of Princeton University with degree in history and Finance collaborated with her Ghanaian friend Afua Osei, a 28 year old graduate of the University of Chicago with Masters in Business Administration and Policy and both of them worked on the idea of She Leads Africa… after realizing the need for leading women in Nigeria and the rest of the continent. They saw She Leads Africa as a symbol of strength for women who are not scared to break through social, cultural and financial constraints. No wonder they say small minds discuss people while great minds discuss ideas.

‘’Investing in women reaps significant dividends for families and societies. Women tend to be investment multipliers; investing the majority of their income back into their families and communities. These results in better educated, healthier children who go onto be more productive, more prosperous citizens’’…Yasmin Belo Osagie.
Founded in 2014, SLA is a platform to gear up female entrepreneur from SMEs to Pan-Africa industry leaders, gives support for their ideas and access to professionals who can assist with advice and funding to turn start-ups into major business enterprises. SLA has signed up thousands of women into their network. In One year, SLA has made remarkable impact. First, they launched an All-Female Pan-African pitch contest that drew 500 applicants from almost 30 countries. The winner of the competition, Cherae Robinson-creator of Rare Customs (the world’s only mobile app dedicated to booking and buying experiences in Africa by tourists) , was awarded $10,000 while the second and third winners were awarded $5,000 and $1,000 respectively; secondly, SLA sponsored entrepreneurs attending the Investors Demo Day in Washington D.C.; it has established partnership with Intel to conduct workshops for Tech-entrepreneurs; They have also negotiated with one of Nigerian largest bank to create a low-interest lending program for female entrepreneurs; and lastly an Online platform that features African case studies taught by business experts.

Like the saying goes ‘’when God gives a vision, He makes the provision’’. Aliko Dangote has set aside $1million in low-cost for start-ups under the She Leads Africa umbrella. Yasmin and Afua are named Forbes 20 Youngest Power Women in Africa.

I learnt two major lessons from Yasmin-One, to make use of every opportunity and two, to carefully pick my friend (a friend that will help make my ideas a reality).
Note: The essence of Pearldiva is to stir up your potentials. You too can make global impacts if you looked inward.

5 WAYS TO STOP NIT-PICKING

It is easy for couples to nit-pick when they live together. They find faults and irritants that push them to want to ‘correct’ each other and criticize each other for every little thing. This truth about this ‘You-are-at-fault’ syndrome is that it makes one forget their partner’s good qualities.
Most relationships fail because we spend too much time pointing out each other’s mistakes and thus, not creating enough time to enjoy each other’s company. Nobody is perfect. We all have our shortcomings. The better we know and understand our partner’s strengths and weaknesses, the better we see their faults and the longer we be or live with the person.
‘’When you keep picking at the habits of your spouse, you often cause them to resent ‘your help’ so much that they dig in all the deeper into the habit, and/or they mentally build up walls of contentions, distancing themselves from you emotionally’’ says Cindy and Steve Wright. The reality is that focusing on small issues makes us miss out the blessings of the union..

FEMALE VILLAINS OF NOLLYWOOD

A truly talented actor or actress can play any role especially one that is totally different from who they really are. It is often a celebration in the scope of creativity that permits them to explore and excel in their roles. Many of these characters wow us and make us almost forget that they have a life outside the screen.
Let’s give it them…it is not easy acting what you are not. Some of them are being confronted publicly by fans for certain roles they featured. Here are few female screen divas in Nollywood who can play the villain.

AGING WITH STYLE

People who know me too well know how much I dread to age…just like every other woman. The mere thoughts of looking like Madea in Madea’s Witness Protection drives me nut. I don’t want the wrinkles, my skin looking like boiled meat, saggy breasts (though, we can handle this with push-up bras) or lose my attractiveness. The media hasn’t helped any better…making us believe that the younger the better. Even the ‘tweenies’ have practically pushed us out of the ‘beauty market’. I want to be in my forties and still wear those ‘hot’ dresses. I want to be known as sexy grandma…one that wears the skimpy clothes*wink*
I have realised that the fear of aging can prevent me from embracing the changes and I have dealt with these fears. I will it share you how I did it:
