AMAZING GRACE

What’s going through your mind? Wondering if I am a Christian? What do I know about grace right?  Lol. Interestingly, I am an ardent Christian and I don’t plan on porting. Okay, let me tell you a little about grace especially now Easter is here. I have seen so many definitions and acronyms of ‘grace’ but the one that got to me is the understanding of grace I got during my quiet time.

We all know Grace means God’s unmerited favour to man… which is getting a show of preference when you are not qualified for it. I like to put it this way…it is God loving me when I don’t deserve to be loved. Someone said ‘’Grace is God in the race’’ meaning God who is love and rich in mercies stepping into your life’s race. This makes Him overlook your shortcomings and still reaches out to bless you.  He sent His son to save sinners irrespective of how much they hurt and disobeyed Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus took the punishments that we deserved so that we will enjoy the riches of His blessings all at His expense…GRACE (God’s riches at Christ Expense). Let’s look at grace these ways:

Grace is love: Grace has no meaning without love. Love is the only reason God sent his son to die for you and I (John 3:16). For me, grace is God’s way of playing with me. The essence of playing with someone is to bring joy and happiness to that person.  That’s exactly what grace does…it makes you feel loved and happy. David, in Psalms 8:4 understood this.

Grace saves: Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us that by grace are we saved. Grace can also mean the Gospel race…the preaching of the gospel to save people from sin. Grace also saves (exempts) you from mishaps like it happened with Noah and his family (Genesis 7:1)

Grace justifies. In John 8:3-11, justice was to be meted against the woman caught in the act of adultery but Jesus stepped in and justified her case before her prosecutors. We all have shortcomings but through grace we are justified (Romans 3:23-26).  Grace is not a reason to wallow in sin (Romans 6; 1) rather it trains you to live a godly and sensible life.

Grace is forgiving. Back in college, I remember, when we failed to submit our assignments on a particular day, the teacher would say ‘’Today is your day of grace’’. This means that ‘’I will pardon you today’’. Grace pardons your weaknesses and shortcomings. That’s the reason Jesus told the woman in John 8:11, ‘’…Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Grace qualifies: Grace qualifies you to receive blessings from God…even when the world disqualifies you. Read Romans 5:20. I like to say that grace gives you long leg. That is, gives you connection when you don’t have connections or don’t know how to go about it. Simply put, grace makes you sweat less…what others are dying to get, you’ll get on a platter of gold. Grace also qualifies you access to God’s presence.

As you celebrate this Easter, make good use of the grace available to you by redemption…for it will suffice for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). It is God’s gift to us through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8) and only accessible through Christ.

Turn to Him and enjoy the grace-filled life!

Happy Easter!
